Your age pathway
Support for ages 16–17. Your voice matters.
Understand your options, prepare for a conversation and explore services designed for older teenagers.
Start with a conversation, not a label
You do not have to explain everything perfectly. You might start with: "Things have been difficult, and I would like help understanding what is happening." Choose someone you feel safe speaking to, such as a health professional, school counsellor or trusted adult.
Before sharing sensitive details, you can ask what will stay private, when information might be shared, and how you will be involved in decisions. This website does not decide your consent rights; these need to be explained for your location and circumstances.
Finding age-appropriate care
When comparing services, ask about the particular program, not just the organisation. Check whether it accepts 16- and 17-year-olds, who provides adolescent clinical care, how schoolwork is handled, and what arrangements exist for family contact. Questions you are allowed to ask
- Who would I meet first, and could I speak with them privately?
- What choices would I have about the plan?
- How could I raise a concern or make a complaint?
- What would happen to school, friendships and the things I enjoy?
